the Marquis de sade is afraid of the sea
devised piece by Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya
February 23rd-25th
The Marquis de Sade is Afraid of the Sea, a devised piece by Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya, deals with facing catastrophes; navigating social, political and virtual dimensions; the need for revolutions in the way we view reality and we view theatre; and the fascination and cruelty of languages, words and beliefs. It creates fluid passages through fragmented realms that touch on: the legend of the Golem (modern soldiers as Golems); spiritualist mediums trapped in technological worlds; bodies resurrected from the flood; and re-visitations of the first act of Anton Chekhov´s The Seagull and the writings of the Marquis de Sade.
Please note: production has explicit adult content and nudity.
The Marquis de Sade is Afraid of the Sea was first staged in Spanish by the playwright and students of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 2009. The new version, the first one in English, and its first NYC staging, will feature Christopher Cancel-Pomales, Caridad del Valle, Rachel Kodweis, Michael Leonard, Milton Daniel López, Laura Mercedes, Alejandra Morales, Laura Riveros, and Daniela Thome, in the cast, directed by Adyanthaya, with designs and concepts contributed by Cancel-Pomales and Morales

PENNY PINBALL PRESENTS THE BEACONS is a action-packed, heavy-punchin', uber stylized story following a pinball narrative that re-imagines Manhattan as a Debtor's prison. Siblings blur the boundaries of game and reality as a mysterious woman calls for a multi-spective approach to storytelling. Loosely inspired by pinball, and the 1970s cult classic "The Warriors" this femme fiction includes original music by Red Light Cameras and Zechs Marquise.
